    1. Re: [D-G LIST] BRYSON
    2. I have been following the Bryson info with interest. My great grandmother was illegitimate and her reputed father was Joseph BRYSON. She used the nane Elizabeth BRYSON and although I have no birth certificate, I have her marriage, death and census records which indicate she was born around 1835 in Gretna. She married George ELLIOT in 1860 in Annan and I have a photo of them taken on that occasion. Her mother's name was Mary STRAITON. Elizabeth named her third son Joseph BRYSON ELLIOT, born 1865 in Annan -- which gives some indication of the link to BRYSON. Jan Taylor Ontario, Canada

    1. Hi all You may remember that I joined the list last week. I was the naive one who wrote my entire mail in capitals!! Sorry again. I was looking for any information re HUGH BYRON and his wife AGNES GIBSON. I had records of their marriage and of their son's (my great great grandfather) birth but couldn't trace them on the 1851 census. I was dropped a line by a member, suggesting that I look again at the information that I had for more clues and, low and behold, I found that they were both from Orchardton. I have now traced them on the 1851 census, definitely them as all stats match, using the surname BRYSON. They were farm labourers at Orchardton and I am again asking for your assistance....have tried searching SCOTLANDSPEOPLE without any success. I would be most grateful for any assistance, even if just to find out about the farm. Many thanks Andy ----------------------------------------- Email provided by http://www.ntlhome.com/

    3. Greetings! In the course of comparing notes (outside the Dumfries Galloway List) on the Mortons of Canonbie, who apparently farmed in the parish of Kirkandrews-upon-Esk, it's been suggested to me that a lot of the Kirkandrews parishioners in the 1700s preferred at that time to use Canonbie for baptisms etc. Did I know why? I've not a clue, other than to comment that one is in England and the other in Scotland. Has anybody any suggestions? - or is it a myth? Ken (Liverpool)

    2. Sue
    3. Hello to you all What a great website! I am looking for information of my Great Grandfather, EDWARD GRAHAM (b circa 1856 South Hetton, Co Durham) according to the 1881 and 1901 Census. 1881 - Edward is listed with his wife, Ann Graham (maiden name unknown) and 2-year-old daughter Annah B Graham. 1901 - Edward is listed with wife Mary Ann Graham (nee BYTHEWAY) (my Great Grandparents) and the following children - George 10 - born America (BS) Sarah 8 - born Haswell, Co Durham James 5 - born Hetton, Co Durham Frances Esther (my Grandmother) - born Newbottle Co Durham The information on these two census sheets are the only details I have of Edward Graham and I would love to discover his parents/possible brothers/sisters etc to further my research. Edward Graham was a coalminer. I cannot find details of Edward's Birth, any of his marriages, or find him on the 1861, 1871 or 1891 Census in this area. I have tried to find the family on Passenger lists etc but to no avail. (Obviously he may have been in America for the 1891 Census and possibly married my Great Grandmother there.) There is talks within the family that Philadelphia or Pennsylvania may have been possibilities as Mary Ann BYTHEWAY's family seem to have emigrated there. If this fits with any of your GRAHAM ancestors or you can help me in any way, however small, I would be more than grateful. Thanks for taking the time in reading this - and I look forward to hopefully hearing from any of you. Regards Sue x --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Halo All In 1858 the GIPSEY arrived in South Africa with a number of the Aided Immigration passengers on board - one of these passengers was Samuel SCOTT - presumed to be the Samuel who married Susanna Maria (later Susan Marion) Mc Donald in Zeerust, South Africa in 1878. It is because of this union that I am "alive and well and living in Mogale City in South Africa" ! I am still trying to confirm that this Samuel is the one who was christened on 5 Feb 1929 in Urr in Scotland (from Robert Scott and Elizabeth McGeorge), lived at High Ryes, Southwick, Scotland in 1841 and worked as an Agricultural Labourer in Holywood, Scotland in 1851. Also whether he was the man who married my GGgrandmother in Zeerust, South Africa in 1878 I am also trying to find out as much as I can about this Ship GIPSEY and the passenger on board - including finding a drawing or sketch of the Ship.
