    3. Dear All At the risk of being tedious, please add me to the company of those who have been experiencing difficulties with this otherwise first-=class site. It seems to have started about a month ago. The fact that it's often 'down'in the evening, but available again the next day (and that if it goes down on Friday it stays down all weekend) leads one to suppose that there's some problem which needs regular attention from the Council's IT Team. I would imagine that there are some 'local' listers who might be in a better position to bring these problems to the Council's attention than those of us who live in Yorkshire or Florida! I must say, it was quite disheartening a couple of weeks ago to come back from Dumfries and find that I couldn't easily follow up leads I'd found in the excellent Ewart Library. 3. Jenny, There was another query about Greenbrae Loaning to the list earlier this year. Greenbrae Loaning is a minor road which links Lockerbie Road and Annan Road. It passes between a public park and what used to be Park Hospital (the "fever hospital"). It also passes by what used to be the Railway Mission Hall. There are a few older houses in the street. 3. Hi everyone, I'm new to the list and wondering if anyone can help me locate the death date of David Brown in Tinwald. He was a Joiner aged 60 in Kirkland Village on 1841 census for Tinwald. His wife Ann [ms Johnston] was a widow by 1851. I'd be very grateful if anyone can help. Many Thanks in advance Lyn.

    2. Jennifer Gibson
    3. Hello All, When Margaret GIBSON and Alexander SMITH married in Rhonehouse, Kelton parish, KKD, on 19 November 1875, she was a laundrymaid and he was a gardener. It seems to me that with these occupations they may have been employed by a mansion owner. What are the most likely places in Kelton parish at this time for this possibility? Or, does anyone have any other suggestions for where they might have been employed? TIA Jenny Gibson, Toowoomba, Australia.

    2. On 2 December I received a message from someone with the email address of: wingspread257@ea The sender wanted information on on a book I have called: "Memoirs of the Rebellion in 1745 and 1746" by The Chevalier De Johnstone. The trouble is, I can't open the email for some reason, and the return address is incomplete. So, if you are out there, please try to contact me again via email! 2. Hello All, I have a James Clanachan died 1873 at Crichton Sanitorium. His son also ended his time on earth in another sanitorium some 50 years later. Now, before you ask, I am not particularly worried about the gene pool. I an just wondering if there is a link as they both worked at the Waulkmill in Kirkcowan . What chemicals were used in the processes of making cloth in the 19th century? Ken Parker

There is information at:- http://freespace.virgin.net/john.williams1/croyalh.html. on the old Crichton Asylum opened in 1839, I think this must be the Institution you refer to. I for one will add this snippet to my collection and I will check the online 1851 census to see if they appear back in D&G. thanks! 3. Hi, we've just found out that there are descendants of Andrew Robb and Margaret Duncan still living in the areas of Castle Douglas... though we weren't given any names to help us we were told that they weren't actually Robb's. We're just wondering if anyone could possibly tell us the best way to try and make contact with them.. for instance is there a local paper for the area? and how would we from Australia be able to access it? Thanks for your help. Leeona and Bill
