Just passing on some very important information. To commemorate this special occasion, the Battery Conservancy will launch its new website -CastleGarden org - where researchers can do online searches of the expansive database of Castle Garden passenger lists! Castle Garden first opened its doors on August 1, 1855 and would see 8 million immigrants pass through her doors in her 34 year reign! The passenger lists pertaining to these 8 million immigrants are currently found at the National Archives, and they are *not* indexed. This monstrous project has been led by Dr. Ira Glazier, former Director of the Center for Migration Research at the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies and Immigration. I am seeking information on Alfred Duckworth, born 1863, possibly in Birmingham, England. His parents may have been William and Elizabeth Duckworth. He married Ann Lydia Gething on July 5, 1891 at St. Barnabas Church in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. They had five children: Alfred Reginald, May, Frederick John, Arthur Colin, and Hilda. Alfred Reginald moved to Michigan in the 1920's, but the other siblings remained in England. His father, Alfred, died in 1910 in Birmingham, England. Barbara in Georgia

Hello, James Duckworth (b. 1830 in Indiana d 1865 in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War) married Susan Evans July 4, 1851 in Shelby Co., IN. They are found in the 1860 Hendricks Twp., Shelby Co., IN census. I'm trying to determine James father. It may have been Nathan Duckworth but I cannot say for sure. My Duckworth line appears to be connected to the line of William Duckworth of Green Co., KY, that migrated to Morgan and Johnson Co. Indiana. Thank you for any assistance, Roger Lester

Hello fellow DUCKWORTHS, Can anyone help me in tracing my ancestry? I have just acquired the marriage certificate for John DUCKWORTH and Sarah CALVERY who were married in Bury, Lancashire on 20/12/1850. John, aged 26 was a bricklayer and Sarah, aged 20 was a spinster. They both lived in King street, Bury. John's father was James DUCKWORTH, who was a printer and Sarah's father was Thomas CALVERY, who was a mechanic. I think I may have found the birth details of John DUCKWORTH. He was born on 27/2/1825 and Christened on 27/3/1825 at St Mary's in Bury. His father's name was James and his mother's name was Betty. I have not been able to find the details of Sarah CALVERY (can anyone help me out?), however I do have details of her death. She died on 20/9/1872, at the age of 39 in Adelaide, South Australia. Therefore she was either born in 1830 or 1833, depending on which certificate was correct in stating her age. John and Sarah migrated to Adelaide, South Australia some time between their wedding date of 20/12/1850, and the birth of their first born, Thomas DUCKWORTH - 22/12/1855. They had three more children, all born in Adelaide, SA. They were: Emily Jane DUCKWORTH (b 18/11/1857), Ellen DUCKWORTH (b 4/10/1860) and Elizabeth DUCKWORTH (b 31/7/1864, d 4/2/1866). Thomas DUCKWORTH (also a bricklayer) married Elizabeth Anna Dorothy SECKER on 31/7/1882 at St Luke's, Adelaide, SA. Elizabeth was born in East Dereham, Norfolk, England in September, 1861(her father Jeremiah SECKER was a brickmaker). She died in 1938 at the age of 77 in Sydney. I have traced Elizabeth's ancestry back to 1759. Thomas and Elizabeth had five children, all born in Sydney. They were: Adelaide DUCKWORTH (b 26/4/1883, d 14/1/1884), Albert Thomas DUCKWORTH (b30/10/1886, d ?/1/1959 in Brisbane Q'Land), John (Jack) DUCKWORTH (b 1888), Emily E and Elsie DUCKWORTH (twins b1891). Albert Thomas DUCKWORTH married Rose Hanna CUNNINGHAM in Dubbo, NSW in 1911 and my father Albert Thomas DUCKWORTH was born on 21/9/1913 in Bellingen, NSW. Regards, Tom DUCKWORTH

Hi Tom and all, I too have Duckworths from this neck of the woods and quite honestly they are my second hardest line to untangle. With few exceptions, they all seem to be called John, James, Mary, Ellen etc. And it doesn't help when they move around either.... I think, after a lot of head-scratching, that my own Duckworths are from Haslingden, along with my Chadwicks (Ellen Duckworth married Ellis Chadwick in Haslingden in 1829). However, I have a little Bury mystery which may interest you. Ormerod Duckworth, son of Henry and Jane, was born in Haslingden in 1825. However he married in Bury parish church in 1848, giving his occupation as tailor. He married Alice Ashworth, and both parties give their residence as Musbury. Ormerod and Alice had a daughter Jane Ann who sadly died in 1857 aged 8 years. This child is buried in Glossop Derbyshire, her memorial on the same grave as my Chadwick forebears, including Ellen Duckworth. Why is she there? What happened to Ormerod and Alice? They are not in Derbyshire on the 1851 census. It is possible that Ormerod was Ellen's nephew. If you come across Ormerod at all, please let me know! Any suggestions please! Marion
Hi Mary, There aren't many Selina Duckworths on the 1901 census, and the only one that appears to fit is Selena (sic) Duckworth age 35 born and living in Accrington. If you have some credit it may be worth downloading the image to see if she has a husband Thomas? Unfortunately, as you know, there are so many Duckworths around that area! (including mine - which I've abandoned for a while!) There are a couple of possible Thomases in Accrington in 1901. Good luck Marion ----- Original Message ----- From: "mary MASON" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 28, 2003 9:32 PM Subject: THOMAS HENRY > Hi Listers, > > My first posting to this site and my search is for THOMAS HENRY DUCKWORTH he was my maternal great-grandfather. Hi Listers, My first posting to this site and my search is for THOMAS HENRY DUCKWORTH he was my maternal great-grandfather. Unfortunately I am unable to find my grandfathers (Albert Duckworth) birth cert and without it cannot get back any further, I have had a professional searcher in London go to the PRO several times, I know granddad was born 23rd September 1901 (after the census of course) and the only other thing my mum tells me is that granddads mum could be Selina Howarth (Haworth). So that is all I have THOMAS HENRY DUCKWORTH probably married late 1800's to SELINA HOWARTH (HAWORTH) with a son ALBERT born in September 1901. Anyone have these in their family. Those on the Lancashire list have probably heard my plea before. I believe they were in Salford some time, but lived in Bury in later years, Thomas was a carter. Regards Mary
I'm researching my DUCKWORTH roots and am at a brick wall with Thomas. I have his information from the 1881 census, but can't find anything prior. He was born in 1835? in Blackburn, Lancashire. Thomas married Johanna (BOWMAN) DUCKWORTH and had several children: Elizabeth (my gggrandmother), William H., Isabella, Mensfirth, Robert, and Margert all born in Blackburn, Lancashire. I know that Johanna and the children did migrate to New Bedford, Massachusetts...she died there in 1911. Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thank you in advance Christine Columbia, Maine, USA
