This may help those looking for information on Louisa T. DuBose who married Benjamin Lavender, Jr. The correct name has been a question; I found her listed in the 1860 Clarke Co., AL census index as Louisa T. Lavender. I do not have easy access to a Clarke Co. census; if anyone is kind enough to look her up, she is on page 607 in Grove Hill. My family has said that when Benjamin died the family moved to Grove Hill in Clarke Co. Only one of the family remained in Dale Co., AL; this was Thomas Calhoun Lavender from whom the Dale Co. and Barbour Co. Lavenders are descended. Why the 2 year old Thomas was left behind is a mystery to me. He was raised by a Loftin family and his headstone is shared with the Loftins.
