    1. DuBose, DuBoise, DuBois...
    2. I have found this to be quite a problem. My gggrandfather was Rueben Gains DuBois born 1849, Charleston SC.(d.1932) he married Camilla Garrett born 1857, alsoin Charleston SC(d. 1928). They moved to Georgia having some or all of11 children there. Nine of their children lived to adulthood. Fletcher b. 1872, Mamie Mary Ann b. 1877, James Porter b. 1886, Fredrick Edward b. 1888, William Carl b. 1890, Lula Mae b.1893, Ashley Emmet b.1895, Minnie Ola b. 1897, Annie Belle b.1900( Charlie and Leslie died before age 5) James Porter was my ggrandfather. During his life time he used four versions of the name that I know of. When his children were entering school he was using DuBoise and as a result they used that version all of their lives. For the draft of WWI he used the DuBose version. At some point he used duBois. When he obtained his SS# he was back to using DuBois as had his father before him. The brothers I've located records for also used the DuBois version. No one has ever been able to give a reason for his switching around but by the time he died in 1969 he had been with DuBois as a last name for many decades. When ever I search records I always have to look for all variations since I just never know which he used when. I have as yet not been able to find records for Rueben , Camilla and their parents but I keep trying! Anoc53@aol.com
