My Father's sister, Valarie Darling, DuBose, had traced our geneology through the Daughters' of the Texas Republic some time in 1965, but her search came to an abrupt end when she found Monsieur Jean Pierre Isidore DuBois, to be of such colorful charachter, as one might expect, she refused to believe we were any part of such unbeliebable heartless acts. My aunt forbade us to any family members to persue, and withdrew from The Daughters' of the Texas Republic. I am now 52 and was curious to our heritage, I was never real close to my father or his family and my grandparents died at a very young age. I do know my grandmother was a RN graduate of Baylor in Dallas, Texas. Her first name I never knew, but my grandfather's first name was Oscar Wade, I know that because my next to the oldest brother was named after him. Any information would be appreciated, the last information we had on de Saligny Dubois was he picked up in New Orleans. <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/DuBose>

It is not "your roster", it belongs to everyone. Like it or not. Even though you may have typed the roster information and posted it onto a web page, that does not mean that it belongs to you. Nor does it give you copyright to the roster. You have no power or right to prevent others from copying or using such materials. You can post all the "disclaimers" or "rules" that you like. They are meaningless and have no standing in the law. The simple fact is that 100+ year old rosters can't be copyrighted. Steven J. Coker P.O. 3. Steve, With all your postings and following up on your RULES, you totally ignored the RULE on my web page when you copied one of the rosters that I painstakingly transcribed and posted to one of my web sites by sending it out across your mailing lists. I don't post my rosters to my mailing list. Here is the text that you did not copy and paste to the e-mails: The data included on the web pages created by Cynthia Ridgeway Parker may be freely used to further one's knowledge and understanding of family origins. The information included on this page is from the personal research of Cynthia Parker. This web page may not be published or distributed in any form without the written permission of the web master. You are welcome to print a copy for your own personal use or for donation to your local genealogical society or library. All printed copies must retain this disclaimer. I want people to freely use the rosters, but I don't want them posted to mailing lists. You did not get my written permission. As always, Cynthia Ridgeway Parker P.S. Your reaction to this admonishment about the error in your ways will tell us all a lot more about your personality than we already know.

A right to the tenth part of the produce of, lands, the stocks upon lands, and the personal industry of the inhabitants. These tithes are raised for the support of the clergy. Fortunately, in the United States, the clergy can be supported by the zeal of the people for religion, and there are, no tithes.... TITHING, Eng. law. Formerly a district containing ten men with their families. In each tithing there was a tithing man whose duty it was to keep the peace, as a constable now is bound to do. St. Armand, in his Historical Essay on the Legislative Power of England, p. 70, expresses, an opinion that the tithing was composed not of ten common families, but of ten families of lords of a manor. -- ________________________________________ / _\ \ \ (_/____________________________________/ \ \ \ Words must be weighed, not counted. \ \ \ \ Steven J. 1. Louisa T. DuBose Lavender
    2. This may help those looking for information on Louisa T. DuBose who married Benjamin Lavender, Jr. The correct name has been a question; I found her listed in the 1860 Clarke Co., AL census index as Louisa T. Lavender. I do not have easy access to a Clarke Co. census; if anyone is kind enough to look her up, she is on page 607 in Grove Hill. My family has said that when Benjamin died the family moved to Grove Hill in Clarke Co. Only one of the family remained in Dale Co., AL; this was Thomas Calhoun Lavender from whom the Dale Co. and Barbour Co. Lavenders are descended. Why the 2 year old Thomas was left behind is a mystery to me. He was raised by a Loftin family and his headstone is shared with the Loftins. I hope this helps those trying to confirm her name and any further information would be appreciated. Lanny Cotton ggGrandson of Louisa T. DuBose

    1. Esther Dubose
    2. Robert D. Brooke
    3. After "lurking" for some time, this is my first attempt to learn more about my GGGGG Grandmother, Esther Dubose, who was married to my GGGGG Grandfather, Andrew Rembert (1717-1775). My Remberts were associated with St. James Parish, Santee, Craven County, SC. Esther is the only Dubose I presently know of from whom I am directly descended, but there was a *lot* of intermarriage between the Remberts and the DuBoses, and the following, I feel confidant, will provide a clue to Esther's close family/parents. Some of the following, I'm somewhat sure, are relatives of Esther. Daniel Dubose, married to Anne Royer, daughter of Pierre Royer and Anne Rembert, (b about 1686). Anne is the daughter of Andre Rembert, b1660. Daniel Dubose, married to Anne Rembert, daughter of Pierre Rembert (b about 1691) and Jeanne ?. Pierre Rembert is the son of Andre Rembert, b1660. (Since Pierre Rembert and Anne Rembert were siblings, Anne Royer and Anne Rembert were first cousins. Was the Daniel Dubose they each married the same person, or were there two Daniel Duboses?) Isaac Dubose (1693-1742) married Madelaine Rembert (About 1699-1735/36) ( Madelaine Rembert was another daughter of Andre Rembert, so she was the aunt of both Anne Rembert and Anne Royer, and therefore the aunt-in-law to Daniel/Daniel) I believe it very plausible that her husband Isaac Dubose was some relation to Daniel/Daniel). Isaac and Madelaine had two children that I know of. Isaac Dubose, Jr. and Madelaine Dubose. Madelaine Dubose married a Peter Dubose. There were probably other children of Isaac and Madelaine besides their namesakes, and probably Isaac Jr and Madelaine Jr had children. Elias Dubose, Captain (b est1732-1752) Ezekial Dubose (1772-1819), Elias' son. Ezekial Dubose married Mary Rembert (1781-1817). Mary was the great grandniece of both Pierre Rembert and Anne Rembert, because her GG Grandfather was Andre Rembert, Pierre and Anne's father. Well, that's all I know about these Dubose people, and I'm sure you are all saying "Thank God", because it certainly is confusing. It took me over an hour to type this message, trying to figure out myself the relationships of all these Duboses and Remberts who married kin. I'm hopeful one of you recognizes a Dubose name or two, and might give me a clue as to where Esther fits in. Thank you in advance. Bob Brooke

    3. Steve, Excuse me, but you fail to realize that you copied my transcription of old data, and my transcription is copyrightable. I am very much involved with the USGenWeb project and am quite aware of what is copyrightable and what is not. The data at the archives is waiting there for you to go and make your own transcription. It's public domain, but my transcription is not public domain. My transcription is copyrighted. It is my work. I am working on a book with old newspaper transcriptions. When I publish it, don't you think that it's copyrightable. It most certainly is. I have taken technology courses via the college of library science at USC. I have learned quite a bit in those courses. If someone puts up a webpage and places a copyright on the page, it's copyrighted. No one else has the right, morally or legally, to make a copy of it, in any way, shape, or form. This issue was at one time a hot topic on the USGenWeb all list. What you have done is against Rootsweb's policy. It is also immoral. I promise you that if you copy and publish any of my work across your list again, I will contact Rootsweb. I have already consulted the SCGenWeb State Coordinator about this. (As you may know I am assistant coordinator for SCGenWeb.) If anymore data is harvested from an SCGenWeb page and sent out across the list, which resides on Rootsweb, we will both contact them. They are adamant that copyrights be honored. Read the blurbs on the data in the South Carolina Archives on Rootsweb. The info in copyrighted to the transcriber. The info that you sent to Sumter has your name on it and a copyright blurb giving you credit. If you don't choose to believe what I am telling you, then contact Brian at Rootsweb and see how he feels about you harvesting info and sending it out across a list that is on the Rootsweb server. It is not to be done. By the way, I have noticed before info that you have cut and pasted from some of my pages, word for word, such as from the Clarendon Archives page and placed on your web page. That is a no no also. I received over a hundred e-mails, privately about my message to you. All were in favor of what I had said. People don't like seeing you harvesting other people's hard work and sending it out across the list. The url is what is needed and a bit about what's on the page. Cynthia R. Parker SCGenWeb Assistant State Coordinator

I am descended from Isaac and Suzanne Couillandeau DuBose through Peter DuBose, Isaac Elbert DuBose, Peter DuBose, Dr. Horace Nicholas DuBose, Dr. Stephen Bryan Dubose, Dr. Benjamin Pearce DuBose, Stephen Bryant DuBose (my grandfather), and Edith Bonita (DuBose) Painter (my mother). Mother's family home was Louisiana. She and my father (a South Carolina native) were married there in 1941, and returned to South Carolina after WW II. It is interesting how things come "full circle". We had always assumed that mother's family arrived in Louisiana by way of Acadia, and now we learn it was by way of South Carolina. I am fascinated by the family history, and by the amount of research and effort that has gone into it.... 1. W.R. DUBOSE, 1879
    2. This is a mention of W.R. Dubose on a ship transcribed by the Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild: http://istg.rootsweb.com/1800/richmondco790324.html I thought someone might be interested in the name. It seems to indicate that Mr./Dr. Dubose was already a resident of the US and was returning on this ship. SS City of Richmond manifest of 1879 - Liverpool to New York 16 W.R.
