Author: tcmk1971 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.driscoll/406.1.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello again- I'll see if I can find your tree on ancestry and see if it gives us any clues. Baltimore was the stronghold of the Driscoll clan in Cork, and they hold the clan gathering there each June. Have you ever been? It's lots of fun, and we're going again this year. So maybe the Bible is referring to the Driscoll origin in general? Or perhaps the family hailed from there, as well. The only clues we've found to a more precise geographic origin in Cork have come from the DNA project. We're a pretty close match to a few other Driscolls who can trace their ancestors to the Bandon/Dunmanway area. I have found an 1822 (what we believe to be Timothy's birth year) baptism in both Bandon and Dunmanway that could match, so it's a definite possibility. I have lots of info that I haven't looked at in a while, so I'll see if I can come up with any references to a Dennis Driscoll in my papers. My Rootsweb tree is up at: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=tcmk1971 But I won't even give you the URL of the Ancestry one, as I just looked at it and it's really horribly outdated. I'll try to get a new and improved one up this week. Best, Tara Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: tcmk1971 Surnames: Driscoll Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.driscoll/406.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: How funny! I was sending a message to you as you were sending this one! Our family lived at the Cayuga St. house until Timothy's youngest daughter, Elizabeth Driscoll, died in 1937, so there must be some connection. It does get confusing as Justin White at the records center told me that they re-numbered the houses slightly in the early 1900s, but it's still too close to be a coincidence. Timothy's wife's name was also Ellen Driscoll (nee Harrington), so could we be mixing them up? Wondering what the names of their unmarried daughters were? It's very possible they could have been brothers or cousins. We know that he had multiple siblings, but have never been able to find a link to them. We actually drove up last spring to visit the gravesites and saw the house. The dark brown house just to the left of it (183/162 Bridge) was ours as well and stayed in the family until the 1950s when my great-grandmother moved to Syracuse. My daughter and I are actually hoping to make it up there in a few weeks to visit the graves and do a little research, but I still have to see if I can get away from work. Feel free to email me at caffeine.queen@sbcglobal.net, or I'll also keep checking this message board. All very interesting!! Can't wait to hear more! I must let you know, though, that the Driscoll side prior to Dennis is a bit sketchy. I've had a tough time locking in details but did find a family Bible that identifies the Driscoll clan as being descendents of John Lord Baltimore...so possibly we are from Baltimore, County Cork??? Author: tcmk1971 Surnames: Driscoll Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.driscoll/406.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Mary- Just thought I'd say hello, as I have been doing a lot of research on Driscolls in Oswego in the past couple of years. All of my Driscoll family lived in the city from the time they came over from Co. Cork in 1845, and there are still a few there today. Wondering if any member of your family has participated in the Driscoll DNA project? I'd be very curious to see if you were a genetic match to our family as there weren't all that many Driscolls there in the 1800s (and it seems like most of them were our cousins!). I have built a Driscolls of Oswego website for our family, but have been having some technical difficulty getting it all up on the web. Hoping to get some assistance with that soon. Do you happen to have a tree up on Rootsweb or Ancestry.com? I have a lot of info on both, although it could use some updating. Best, Tara C. I've done some research on my Driscoll family from Oswego. My ggrandfather, Dennis Driscoll & his wife Ellen (Farden) lived at 68 Tallman in Oswego when their children were growing up. After Dennis died in 1912, his wife & remaining unmarried daughters moved to 177 W. Cayuga. (same as your Timothy Driscoll) Could Timothy and Dennis have been brothers? I drove by the house at 177 W. Cayuga when I was there last summer & took a photo of it. Would you like a copy? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi, you may find that if you call the cemetery that they would be willing to take a pic and e-mail it to you. I have called for my Driscoll's in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Bridgewater and they faxed me copies from the ledge book with my relatives in it - turns out there was no headstone, which unless you know different could be the case with your's, they often just could not afford them. In my case this was prior to common digital camera's.......... I am still looking for my g.grandfather Daniel Driscoll, his wife is buried in the family plot there, but he isn't..........most cemeteries' are quite helpful. Author: janfortado Surnames: Driscoll, O'Driscoll, Mahony, Mahoney, O'Mahony Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.driscoll/588.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The father of both Thomas and Mary was named Michael. Witnesses at the marriage were Peter Driscoll and Johanna Buckley. They had Michael in 1868, Ellen in 1871, and Peter in 1874. Sponsors included Michael and Mary Driscoll, Peggy and Mick Mahony, and Johanna Buckley. They might have had more children, but I found the pages with baptismal records on film at the National Library in Dublin to be faded. Although records give Derreens (which is in the civil parish of Fanlobbus and union of Dunmanway), I have checked land records and census records and have not found Driscolls there. Perhaps a search in Derreen, civil parish of Kilmeen might yield something. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
