    3. I have never had anyone come thru Ellies Island. Is there a sight to check to see if a relative came thru? One of my Doyles, the mother of Nellie was born in NY and I am wondering about the time frame. Nellie was born in CT in 1856-8 and if her mother was born in NY, maybe her parents came thru there. I can't find anything on Nellie but so glad to see others adding to the site. I don't know where to look anymore. It's like all my family just dropped from space to America. Margaret

    3. Hi all, WE had a Nellie and a Margaret--at least I DO know what became of them, and my understanding (check movie like Gangs of NY--part of which was true) is that some just walked off the boat--depending on the year they arrived. Now this is something I have never taken time to do but I heard that relatives in NY area sometimes posted notices in the paper to let new arrivals know where to find them. So--the NY list would be a good thing to check too. Don't you just know some ancestors are having a good laugh up there in the Irish section of heaven watching us trying to track down every little lead.
