Hey, have you ever heard the stories that the Irish mostly traveled steerage and sometimes the ship captains going through Canada...St Laurence R. (I think) tossed the poor Irish off into the surf and they were rescued by the French thus forging a bond between the two groups. When ever things get tough for me I think of what it took for my Irish ancestors to have enough faith and backbone to make it here. Mine worked at the docks and the women did laundry to survive. And they still had a sense of humor. That's the heritage I value most. Good luck with your research.
