I have never had anyone come thru Ellies Island. Is there a sight to check to see if a relative came thru? One of my Doyles, the mother of Nellie was born in NY and I am wondering about the time frame. Nellie was born in CT in 1856-8 and if her mother was born in NY, maybe her parents came thru there. I can't find anything on Nellie but so glad to see others adding to the site. I don't know where to look anymore. It's like all my family just dropped from space to America. Margaret

Dudley & Connie....seen your posting and was wondering just how much info was actually true. We who search for missin links know just how happy it makes us when we find another piece of history. I have a Martin Doyel/Doyle in my line that use to drive me crazy if not to far off places to search for his kinfolk. Martin had 18 brothers and sisters according to some researchers. How could anyone prove this? Being "IRISH" is startin to be some type of fad. Who knows maybe we have finally decided to join clans without knowin the reason...lol. Anyway......At the beginning of my kinfolk I show a Doyel/Doyle family from Bagenalstown, Carlow Co, Ireland. Depending on who says what and I might even have this wrong or mixed up I can only say that a story goes that a Samual Doyel/Doyle came to America somewhere around the Colonial days with three brothers. They somehow separated and it was said they never seen each other again. Samual was born about 1720, was believed to have married a Martha Farmer and had 14 children. His brothers name are believed to have been Michael, John and Martin. I havent tried very hard to research any of this. Their father might have been a Gregory Doyel/Doyle from Carlow Co, Ireland. Its hard to verify that info here in the USA. My research has been mostly in Kentucky where they are known to have ended up. There is a Martin Doyle known to have been in Logan Co, Ky married to a Mourning Webb. I have visited their final resting place and very unsettled with the way some towns keep their cem! eteries. Anyway......I found that they had 2 sons named John b. 3-21-1780 & James b unknown. They are buried there in Russelville, Logan Co, Ky. Their families moved on toward Illinois and Missouri at the time frame of the Civil War. As I'm sure you both know, most families back then used the same name pattern. Throughout this family is the names of brothers, uncles, grandfathers all switchin them around to keep the namesake in the family. Now that is really what I see as frustrating. Please contact me and lets see if we can "Hook each other up". The names of Martin, James, John, Thomas and Harry all fall into families repeatedly in my lineage. Harriet, Yes it is strange how we all move around so much! I live on the Montgomery County side of Lake Tillery, in a place called Woodrun. My Daughter lives on the other side of the lake around Norwood! And I used to go trout fishing out in the NC Mountains around West Jefferson and Cherokee when I was younger and in better health. People do not realize how many Doyle clans there are in the US until we start searching for someone. All my ancestors in the US came from Essex and Clinton County in Northern New York and from across Lake Champlain in Vermont, but have since scattered all over the US. Of course thousands of "Doyle's" came thru Ellis Island in New York City. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harriett Auger" <harrietta@skybest.com> To: <DOYLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 08, 2006 10:28 PM Subject: Re: [DOYLE] Doyles in NY > Hi Dud, > This reply comes as a "Oh my God"answer. Eric, No I have not tried that. I will have to try and check it out. All this work paper, says is that they landed in Nova Scotia in 1935. There is no sources in the document that was written by one of the Doyle Ancestors probably in 1970 or 1980 and was in left in some of his uncompleted work. I do not know where in Canada they stayed until they came to Northern New York sometimes in the 1840's. Hi All, I am sure that Harriet remembers me from about a year ago? We had quite a conference going about the Doyle Clan. She and I never did find anyone that were related to us both and I see she is still looking for the same people just like I am.I still have the brick wall with Martin Doyle who evidently first came to Nova Scotia with his wife Nancy McCrea in the 1830's. They had about 3 children born in Canada and then they moved on to Chesterfield, in Essex County, Northern New York around 1840. If anyone has any other definite information about this Doyle family I would appreciate a response. Hope that I have not disrupted your line of thoughts on the Doyle's? How is your research coming along Harriet? Better than mine I hope! I didn't see any Nellie Doyles on the 1860 or 1870 census in Connecticut. There is an Ellen Doyle 13 years old born in Connecticut on the 1870 census. >From: "sunsethillce" <sunsethillce@saber.net> >Reply-To: DOYLE-L@rootsweb.com >To: DOYLE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [DOYLE] Re: DOYLE-D Digest V06 #44 >Date: Wed, 7 Jun 2006 09:38:44 -0700 > >My Doyle is Nellie. My Doyle is Nellie. I found her on the 1880 census in Denver, Colo, married to James Case. It says she was born in CT in 1856 and her parents were born in Ireland. I have never been able to find her on anything else, census, death or whatever, but Colorado didn't do much in those times. I found James Case buried in Pueblo, Colo where their son was born in 1883 but nothing on her. I was amazed to find that since I had been looking for so long. I have found Doyles in Hartford, Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven, CT. But no Nellie. She could have been Ellen, Eleanor or something else too. Anyone have anything on the CT census in 1860? Margaret
I will hav e to check out my husband's family info. He isn't interested much in this stuff so I haven't pursued it but I do know his family has some Doyles. I am working on my family files so don't give up on me.
