I too am part of the East End of London silk weaving Dowsett line. I am currently trying to sort out the Australian descendants of my great great grandmother's brother, Samuel Dowsett, a silk weaver in the Bethnal Green area of London, who was convicted of embezzlement in London (at the Old Bailey) on 4 December 1822 and transported for 14 years to Australia. He arrived in NSW on the 'Commodore Hayes', arriving in 1823. This Samuel was the second son of William Dowsett and Elizabeth Bailey (married 21 Apr 1788 in Hackney - my 3x great grandparents. I have various vague lines i am following up at the moment, and, in particular, I think Samuel's eldest son, Samuel Bailey Dowsett (bap. 1 March 1811 in the City Road Wesleyan Chapel, Finsbury) also ended up in NSW. If this is so, I am wondering if you know how he got there? Best wishes Ann in Somerset UK Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
