First of all, thankyou for sharing your pictures and also the wonderful information about you and your family. I do remember Sherry, also Laurie and Carol ( what a beauty).Keawe later told me that Carol was not always very good to him. The last time we talked i think Sherry and Carol were divorced.I do remember an older sister than Barbie. I just can't remember her name. Keawe used to hang out at the Yacht Club with his best buddy, first name i think was 'Billie' last name 'Fink'. They had about 7 children and we were all somehow connected as far as life on the islands went back then.My family, we lived on Old Mokapu Road, in Kailua. Could it be that Ali Morris lived down near the point , a few homes away from us? Did her father divorce her mother later and marry one of our neighbors back then? Oh my goodness...is the world really this small? The name sounds so familliar. We used to all play together. This was all in the late 60's and early 70's. Poomai, we did hear about Alan's son terrible fate. My sister went on and on asking if she could find him when we flew out there to my Aunt Barbara's memorial. I tried to talk her out of it since my sister is very ill, and it was a huge effort for me to take her out to the islands. Also ,she is not mentally stable. She has a big heart, but she has the bi polar disorder.I really didn't want her to try to get in touch with anyone, i knew she would have a hard time just getting thru the whole ordeal of mourning my Aunt and visiting the islands after being gone for so long. When our Lawyer told her about Alan and his son's tragedy, my sister was so shocked that the family had such a tragic life. We both went to bed that night and prayed for Alan , his wife and his son. I calmed my sister down and said 'see Gerianne, others have it even harder' . Dear Poomai...life can be very difficult , right? Yet, it can also be so beautiful. I am just glad that Alan's son, has such a wonderfu! l Father. Yes, i am on Facebook and my name is erni thompson ( lol, hard to believe but that is my real name). My email is 'ernithompson@gmail.com'. I would love to stay in touch with you. My sister Barbara just visited the big island. She is a professor at Stanford University but she i s getting tired of her work there (curater). She was looking into buying a home there. She said it was so very diverse...she loved it but i think she wants to settle in Kaui. I have only been to Oahu and Kaui. I am in Sarasota, FL now near my Mother ( like your Father, she is 88) and my ill sister. I don't know if i will stay here. Somehow Oahu seems to be on my mind alot lately.I have a good retirement ( i flew for Lufthansa German airlines for 34 years ) so i can actually live anywhere. My son is finishing school here in Sarasota, he is bilingual and spent up til a year ago, his school life in Germany with me ,alone. I never want to be too far from him. I wish he would study Law and i even have the hope he may do it on Oahu. This is what i talked to our Lawyer out in Hawaii about, and isn't it a coincidence if he studies Law, like my Grandfather Frank ( and they even look a! like). We just have to see if his grades are good enough. It was a big transition for him and me to leave Germany 9 months ago. That is so wonderful to hear that your mom used to get together with aunt Lurline.Your Mom is the beauty in the picture you sent.Oh my God, she must have been quit a socialite back then.Aunt Lurline was a very special Lady, and like your Dad, she was crazy about horses. So am I. She was actually almost more a Mother to my dad than his own. Maybe your mom met my Grandma too? Her name was Alice Roth Thompson , she was Lurline's sister in-law. She travelled alot with Lurline and acted more the part of an heiress than my Aunt did. She was sun sign Aries and had a very strong personality. Also a big socialite and never spent alot of time with my Dad. When the Massie case evovled, my dad and his sisters had a bodyguard. Life became so difficult that they eventually sent my Dad to live with Lurline in San Francisco where he went to a military boarding school ( and had a horse with him). My Father never forgave his parents for this since he was only 11 at the time. This is why he ad! ored Aunt Lurline and his whole life she always catered to him. Most of the times financially. My Father was an officer, but he later did have boat business's on Oahu. He also was a wild one and had alot of ups and downs in life and could never be faithful. His mother and Aunt Lurline had their hands full with him, believe me! Back to my Grandfather. He was an amazing attorney of his time. He was sp influential that the govenor of Hawaii ate dinner almost evernight at my Grandparents house. He always has a placemat there, whether he showed up or not. Also, my Grandfather was good friends with President Roosevelt and he advised him on alot of Hawaiian politics back then. Honestly, sometimes i don't know if he had good karma for what he did .Also, he bought the Island Lanai, however he lost it to foreclosure since he didn't find any investors back then ( darn, we could be landowners today...lol ;))) My Grandfather died a poor man. He had many debts that he couldn't pay during! , i think the recession back then. My Grandmother ( i am sure with Lu rline's help) got right back on her feet, and did have a long and happy life.At the age of 80 she had 2 boyfriends. Please give your parents my regards. Tell your Mom i wish we could all sit down for tea and chat about these old times. However, we have to be glad that we found this forum where we can exchange our history's. I absolutely love your photo's of your family. I told my sisters, there are so many things you can do, but you can never turn time back. I wish so much i could go back in time on the islands when our grand parents were young. All my love, Erni p.s. i don't think Keawe would want my phone number. He seemed back then to be sort of a recluse?! But if you by chance see him, give him a hug from me. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
