You will need all of the info I gave you "Curtis Lily Asenath Weymouth 5a 306" to do that. 5a is the volume number, 306 is the page. Alternatively you can work out which Register office covers Weymouth and see if they have an online service. The cost would be the same, but you are one step closer to the original than with the GRO. With the local offices they will not want the 5a 306 info just the where and when (which quarter). I tend to use local if I can just to avoid additional transcriptions errors. One of my ancestors is down as Taytor on the GRO, instead of Taylor. Cheers Steve

The reason that I am asking is that, despite there being so few Dowsetts I was not able to find your Gran's birth between 1881 and 1901. Then I had a bright idea and searched on CURTIS, and sure enough, in the Dec quarter of 1891 there is the birth registration as follows Curtis Lily Asenath Weymouth 5a 306 and there is only one Lily Curtis, born Weymounth 1891 +/-2 in the 1901 census. If it were me, I would now start looking through the complete Marriage indexes at http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx for the marriage of Lily Curtis, from 1906 onwards - watch out for some of the indexing. As for the late marriage, well my gt granda was 2 1/2 before his mother got married, and most of the first children seemed to arrive in less than 6 months. Funny that. Hope this all helps Steve

It is all becoming foggy as I learnt from a relative that my grandmother and grandfather did not marry until my mother was around 5 which I thought was unusual in the 1920s/30s. I remember her saying her first husband was a sailor and had drowned falling between the ship and the harbour and she had married my granddad who was also a sailor and was his best friend.

Trying to find the family of my g.grandmother Sarah Malaha DOWSETT born 1822 Hatfield. No idea though which Hatfield but presume it is Herts. Her father was called William. Sarah married (1) Thomas CHAMBERLAIN in June 1/4 1841 in Ongar and had children Mahala Ann Chamberlain 1843 who died soon after birth and James Robert who was born and died 1844 the same year as her husband. (2) John SUTTLING 4 Oct 1845 in Aveley, Essex and had children Charles b. 1847, Mary Ann b. 1849 and Rebecca 1851. According to St. Michaels church Aveley burial records, Sarah Mahala SUTTLING died age 33 in 1854 I would really appreciate any help on trying to find her birth record, parents etc. I have tried just everywhere to get them without success. Many thanks Marion

Dear DOWSETT Subscribers, Here are some resolutions to think about in the coming year: I will use uppercase for family names. I will use leading capitals for given names and place names. I will not shout (use words, except for family names and initials, that are all in capitals.) I will use meaningful subjects. I will only quote part of the messages that I reply to. I will only send messages to the list < DOWSETT-L@rootsweb.com > and commands to the List Servers < DOWSETT-L-Request@rootsweb.com > and < DOWSETT-D-Request@rootsweb.com >. I will not send non ASCII characters (pound symbols and accented characters.) I will not send messages larger than 8000 bytes. I will not send attachments or HTML (we prefer Plain Text.) I will not send Spam. I will try to keep messages on-topic (Genealogy and Family History related to the family name DOWSETT and its variations, anywhere in the world.) I will not send virus warnings to the list without first consulting the Listowner. I will not send complaints or criticism about other subscribers to the list (only the Listowner.) I will not let my mailbox fill-up to the point were my ISP bounces incoming messages. I will be kind and patient with Newbies (new subscribers to the list.) I will use the archives, at < http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=DOWSETT > and < http://archiver.rootsweb.com/DOWSETT-L/ >, to look-up items that have already been posted to the list. I will respect the copyright of other's work and acknowledge my sources. I will change the Subject of a reply to reflect the contents of the message when needed. I will send thank yous to replies to my queries either generically on list, or personally off-list. I will remove the prepend from the subject when replying to the list, so that it does not appear in the Digest. All the best for a happy and prosperous 2006 and may all your searches be successful. Dear DOWSETT Subscribers, The DOWSETT mailing list was orphaned (without a Listowner) for a while and I have volunteered to take on the job of administering it. I am a Computer Consultant who lives and works in the small village of Buxworth, Derbyshire, England. My interest in the DOWSETT family includes my GGGGG Grandmother, Ann DOWSETT. She married John HOCKLEY 1785 in Ulting, Essex, England. The list is small and quiet at the moment, but has the potential of being more active. I you transcribe any document concerning the DOWSETT name please do post the information to the list. If you find a source of DOWSETT information on the Internet please post the URL (web address) rather than just copy and pasting the contents (all web pages are copyright to someone and copyrighted material should not be posted to any mailing list.) Hi all Sorry to be a pest with possible cross-listings, but someone in Spain managed to steal all my email since 14th of this month. I only found out today after contacting Bigpond about no mails for three days so, if anyone has sent me a message since then, would you please be good enough to send it again ? With my luck, this loss will include the message that breaks down a great big wall (:>) Regards and many thanks Irene R
