Marlene, Your guess is as good as mine on Hanover Co. Some of the Downingtown Pa. people went to Frederick Co., Va. but don't know about Hanover Co. According to Sandra Farney, William Downing and wife Phobe Becket and family moved from Lancaster Co., Pa. around 1791 and on Nov. 7, 1791, received a certificate of membership for the family at the Hopewell Fiends of Frederick Co., Va. Children were listed as Ruth, Eleanor, Mary, John, Sarah and Phoebe. According to a census taken in 1797, the census taker stated that John was gone from Frederick Co.
