New subscriber to the DOWNING surname mailing list. Looking for descendents of Thomas DOWNING, born October 18, 1770 in County Tyrone, Ireland. Emigrated to the U.S. in 1792 through Philadelphia and first settled in Petersburg, Virginia. Thomas moved on to the Abbeville District of South Carolina and then to the Mississippi Territory about 1808. He is listed on the 1816 Adams County tax rolls. He is listed as "Thomas Donning" in the 1820 U.S. Census for Marion County. By 1829 the he had settled in Hinds County and is listed in the 1830 and 1840 U.S. Census for Hinds County. Thomas died August 2, 1845 and was burried in the Raymond City Cemetery.
