That's me. I'm a descendant of one of those three children of Robert and Jane Morrow Downing [Delilah] who married three children of Samuel D. Downing [William Nelson], all in Logan County, IL. While no one has ever found a connection it is odd that both Downings lines would end up in same area of Logan County, IL, even along the same Creek [Salt] at the same time, early on when there were very few residents in the area. Both lines had spent some years in Ohio although not in the same county. To the best of my knowledge, no one has found a marriage for James Downing and Nancy Gardner nor proved they were John's parents. Further, there is no proof that John Downing served in the Revolutionary War. He may have but he is not the John Downing claimed in the Gregath book. A couple of his children supposedly served in the War of 1812, including Robert, but I've never actually verified that. William Nelson died in the Civil War and several of Delilah's brothers and cousins served. This is verified.
