Mary was the twin sister of Elizabeth Downing b. 1783 in Va. or Ireland. I was told by a lady that was descended from Mary that she was not married and always lived on the same farm with her sister and James McClelland. Her children I know of were: Preston, James Madison, Joseph and Elizabeth. I have been trying to find out who Elizabeth and James McClelland's children were and who Mary and Elizabeth's parents were. My ancestor, William Downing b. 1800-04 KY married Nancy McClelland and they lived at one time in Henry Co., Ind. I am trying to find out who her parents were. In Washington Co., Ind. land grants is listed the following McClellands. James, purchased land in 1838. Charles, purchased in 1838. William, purchased in 1839. John J. purchased in 1839 and Benjamine, purchased in 1845 and 52. Some of Mary's family live in Guthrie Center, Iowa and some of Joseph Downings (b. 1748 and m. to Jemima Woodward) family live at Casey, Iowa, Guthrie Co.
