Looking for any info on Benjamin and brother Samuel DOWNING who came to MD before the revolution. Samuel enlisted in 1776, at the age of 19, and served 3 years. Benjamin who was probably older than Samuel, md Sarah Gray, who was b. in MD, 17 Nov 1754. Benjamin is listed in the 1790 Census in Frederick Co, MD. He migrated to Kentucky sometime after the birth of his dau, Sophia, in 1793. They were living in Mason Co, KY at the time of dau Ann's marriage to Sylvester Hall, 22 Mar 1797. On to Green Co.KY where Benjamin was killed 5 Sep 1803. Sarah DOWNING was on the tax list of 1807 on the Big Barren River which later became Allen Co near Holland, KY. This tract contains the Downing Cem. in which Sarah, her son James and son Benjamin and his wife Isabella are buried. She died 11 May 1828. Children: Elizabeth Downing- md Joseph Kinkaid 1793-8,Nancy(Ann)-1779, MD, Mary (Polly)-1782, William b 1783, James b 1786, Benjamin Jr. 1789, Rachel 1791-2, Sarah G.(Sallie 1792, Sophia 1792-3, John Munkster 1790-1800.
