hey, just found a family sheet for the Samuel Downing family born 1785 Lancaster Co,Pa and died 7 Oct 1823 in Deleware Co,OH, he married Elizabeth Giffen. They had several children born in Ohio Co,WVA or Deleware Co,OH but none married a Hakes. However I would assume that any Downing in that county during that time frame was connected to this family. Samuel was son of Wm Downing and Mary, and had numerous siblings several of which wound up in Ohio and IN. joe
