Hi everyone, I just joined & this is my first posting. Does anyone have anything on this family: IMMIGRANT: Samuel Downing Jr. (16mar1824 Ireland - 07jul1904 SeaCliff, NY) married (1851? Ireland?) Letitia Sullivan (apr1827 Ireland - 17sep1908 Brooklyn, NY). 1. Sam & Letitia were from Ireland and probably married there. Sam's father was Samuel Downing Sr. Sam Jr. claimed to be of Scotch-Irish descent. Letitia's parents were Daniel Sullivan from Ireland and Mary Dyer who was born in England and later lived with her husband in Ireland. Sam & Letitia emmigrated to New York City around 1852. By 1867 Sam Jr. had opened his store: S. Downing & Son Dry Goods in downtown Brooklyn, NY. Letitia (Sullivan) Downing had a brother named Robert and possibly another one named John. She also had a younger sister named Elizabeth (1841 - ? ), born in Ireland, who married (25mar1871) Stewart Fitzgerald Delaney in Brooklyn. Children of Samuel & Letitia: 1 Samuel Downing III (jan1853 - 04jul1853) died at 317 Greenwich Street, Manhattan during the New York City Cholera epidemic of 1853. 2 Emiline "Emma" H. Downing (24apr1854 - 19mar1919) married (20oct1881) Theodore A. Butler (1855 - ? ). 3 Maria Downing ( ? - 25mar1855) 4 Mary J. Downing ( 1856 - ? ) 5 Robert Franklin Downing (apr1857 - 17aug1930) he was a Brooklyn Alderman. Never married, no children. 6 Samuel Downing III (1859 - 16mar1882) the 2nd child to have this name. 7 Maria Louise Downing (1858 - 16feb1926) married (24jul1889) to Thomas George Wooley of Jersey City, NJ. 8 Henry W. Downing ( dec1861 - 26sep1931) 9 Margaret Downing (1863 - ?) nothing is yet known of her except she was still alive in 1870. 10 Joseph Wesley Downing (jul1865 - 13mar1869) 11 Marcus Albert Downing Sr. (01may1866 - 08apr1943) married (1892) to Maria Antoinette Howell (25jul1864 - 17feb1928) 12 Florence D. Downing (mar1869 - 1929) married (19may1896) to William Howard Hanning (feb1869 - 27oct1924). 13 Minnie Adeline Downing ( jun1870 - 09may1912) Never married, no children. *Any* info at all would be *very* much appreciated.
