it is always a possibility. there was a large Quaker Downing family in Downingtown, PA,but they seem to be pretty well documented and i have never found a connection. the quaker Hopewell meeting house in VA has the minutes in book form and the only downing i saw was from the Downingtown family. The Calverts had a Quaker connection and they were married into the Chenoweths, but the two Chenoweth bros in western MD were in RW, so who knows, joe >My grandfather said the Downings were Quakers from PA. We've never found >anything to back that up but have kept in mind. Now I hear from a lady >researching Downings who says her mother said the Downings were from PA and >were Quakers. [I haven't found a connection to this lady either.] > >This got me thinking. Is it possible that Tim the Tory was a Quaker? > > >Cheryl Rothwell >clrothwell@mindspring.com >Logan County, ILGenWeb, coordinator> >http://www.rootsweb.com/~illogan/loindex.htm >Logan County mailing list> LOGAN-L@rootsweb.com >Downing mailing list> DOWNING-L@rootsweb.com > > >==== DOWNING Mailing List ==== >Space for this list is provided by Rootsweb.com, working to keep online genealogy free for everyone. > >
