    1. Re: [DOWNING-L] Our Downings
    2. Thank you. I understand your reference to the UFO! I am researching the Francis Downing line of Maryland. He was born 1736 in Yorkshire, England. He married Susannah (Wells?) over there.. They came over here and settled in Harford County, MD. Owned land in Deer Creek Hundred, and one other hundred I can't recall right now. His children are: William, Samuel, Richard, John, Powhatan, or Puck, Francis, Jr., Ruth, Mary/Molly, and Susannah, and Rebecca. One researcher suggested that William might be a younger brother or nephew staying with Francis, and Rebecca might be his wife, because on the 1776 census of Harford, there are two Johns, one just about fifteen and the other just six months. Could be. They moved to Fayette County, KY about 1790/1791, I gather all of them. Powhatan is my direct line, and I can't find him after Harford County in 1776. However, he married a Hannah, and had a family, so someone found him(Downings of Europe and America, by Greggith). Two of his sons I did locate in Davies County, MO in 1850--Powatan 2, and Morean, my direct descendent. Morean moved on, and I haven't located him again either. My great grandfather left MO and came down into Indian Territory, and settled later in what is now Deleware County, OK. I found Powhatan 2's son, Powhatan 3, in Tulare County, CA on an 1900 census. But where the first Powhatan landed I don't know. I sure would like to, and to find Morean again, too. Sue Hodnett (Shodnett@aol.com)
