In the 1970s Mrs. Murray Wheeler of Tolland CT was researching this line and stated her view of her ancestry...James Downing b ca 1747, same infor as above, father of Benjamin Downing b ca 1760, d Green Co KY, h/o Sarah Gray who died Barren Co KY; they had a dau Sophia b 1793 , d 1866 Cole Co MO, w/o James Campbell m 1813 Barren Co KY. Their son James Campbell d 1879 Cole Co MO. Not my line. Ann Gregath's account spells it Hulkern, says 12 children, says Benjamin E b 1772. Benj had brother George. Ruby Waugh at jakec@netins.net may know more about this family. Notes I made from The Kentucky Gazette 1787-1800 by Green include: John Downing in Lexington 1797; Francis Downing on a plantation on Hickman Creek 4 mi from Lexington in 1797; a Moody and Downing store, 1796-98; William T. Downing in Lexington 1796; Richard W. Downing Lexington 1793. Sheryl L.
