James Harvey and Jane Day Downing are running a little later than this marriage and in a different state. It does appear that Samuel was the only child of Mary Matthews and Thomas Day -- when the widow Mary married her widowed brother-in-law Samuel Downing in Ohio he is the only child listed in Samuel's Bible. After that Samuel and Mary and, it appears, most of the Matthews, moved to Illinois. It would seem likely Samuel did too but I haven't seen any evidence of it. He is a generation older than your Jane Day. It is possible there was a family of Days in Pike County, OH, who intermarried with the Downings... Samuel and Jane are pretty common names.
