Sue and all looking for Iowa Downings, I have an old Adams Co., Iowa history book that I found the following: Albert Downing, proprietor of a meat market at Corning, Iowa was born in Indiana in 1848. Son of Albert and Sarah Moore Downing, natives of Virginia, who was noted for their piety and strict adherence to the teachings of the Christian Church. His father died in 1862, and his mother is still living, in Cedar Co., Iowa. Mr. Downing, the subject of this sketch, is the third-born of six sons. Coming to Iowa thirty seven years ago, he grew up in Cedar Co. After twenty-two years of farm life he came to Corning, Iowa and began his present business, in which he is prospering. In 1889-90 he was Mayor of Corning and a liberal thinker on all subjects. In 1871 he married Miss Mary Brown, a native of Iowa, and they have four children, Albert, Lulu, Adell, Clyde Leroy and Nora May. I found the following from an old Tipton newspaper, June 12, 1914; Six sons of Albert and Sarah Moore Downing who came to Cedar Co., Iowa, two miles N. of Bennett, Iowa sixty years ago have enjoyed a reunion in Tipton this week. 1. Alexander G. Downing, now lives in Des Moines, Iowa 2. John, is a resident of Springdale Twp. 3. George, of Iowa City, Iowa 4. Paul of Tipton, Iowa 5. Albert of Corning, Iowa 6. Andrew, of Corning, Iowa In 1852 Albert Downing and Jacob Moore entered five quarter sections in a body in Springfield and Inland Twp. First settled by Albert and his three brothers-in-law, Jacob Moore, Sinickson Sparks and Isaac Kelly. Albert moved his family from Greene Co., Ind. with ox team on June 11, 1854 and remained until death July 14, 1877. Sarah died Feb. 13, 1903. Note: Cedar Co., Iowa is the same county I have found family of Mary Downing who's sister Elizabeth m. James McClelland. Some of this family are in Guthrie Center, Iowa and some I have contacted went to Colorado. Mary Downings family are distant cousins someway to the Casey, Iowa Downings that are descended from Joseph, b. 1748 and Jemima Woodward. Ruby Waugh , Iowa
