Samuel Shoup---it states that his grandfather, Jacob Shoup, came to this >country from Germany shortly after the revolutionary war and settled in Pa., >this is where he died. He raised 6 children-John, James, Boston, Henry, Jacob >who married Sarah Downing and are the parents of Col. Samuel Shoup, and >Elizabeth who married Timothy Downing. > Samuel was born May 16, 1828 in Piqua Co., Oh., his father Jacob was a >soldier in war of 1812 in the army of the North. Samuel's parents, Jacob and >Sarah (Downing) Shoup came to Sang. Co., Il. in 1832 and settled in Ball Twp. >Jacob died in the winter of 1850 and Sarah died in 1851/50.
