Joe, In your various research on Downing, did you ever find the name linked withthat of Throgmorton? It would probably be VA; that is where I first found them connected. It seems that erly Francis Downing in the US in 1624, was a servant to a Throgmorton. I found an early Kellam Throgmorton listed as a settler of Jamestown, 1607; in 1618, a John Throgmorton sailed from London to VA and settled in West and Shirlley Hundred, a corp. of Charles City, where also in 1624/5 I found Francis listed as a servant.
