The following was copied from Orphans Court Docket, Bk 1 p313, Luzerne Co, PA: Partition of Real Estate of Daniel Downing The petition of Reuben Downing, Aaron Downing and Eli Downing of Wilkes Barre, Luzerne County, heirs of Daniel Downing, late of same place, decd., who died intestate, was read Representing That the said intestate left a widow, to wit, Hannah, and issue, to wit, Reuben, Aaron, and Eli, the petitioners, Daniel, John, Joel and Jesse, Mary, wife of Samuel Casson; Ester, wife of Asa Stevens; and Olive, wife of John Rosencrants in That the said Intestate died seized in his demesne as of fee of and in two certain tracts or parcels of land situate in the township of Wilkes Barre and county of Luzerne............ Writ issued 5th April 1814. I did not include the whole petition in the interest of space This should settle the question of the parentage of Esther Downing. I descend from Daniel's son Eli who moved with his family to Licking Co., Ohio in 1815. I also descend from Timothy Downing bc. 1744 who's family settled Pike Co., Ohio.
