    3. THE DOWNINGS OF EUROPE AND AMERICA contain lines of various Downing men going back to the 1500s into 1800. Some of the Vanns are listed in the portion devoted to Major John Downing b 1638 who m. Hannah Fawling, a full blooded Cherokee. But of course, not all the descendents are gathered up in this compilation. Marlene
