I have a copy of a newspaper page with an item regarding Jack Downing. It was published in the Adams Sentinel of Gettysburg, PA. on Nov. 21, 1853. The item is a private letter written to General Pierce. Jack Downing has just returned from a "tower" (tour) of Europe as Minister General, and is now at Downingville, Maine. He mentions his Uncle Joshua, Aunt Keziah, cousin Nabby, and cousin Sgt. Joel. A lengthy article, where he discusses the "happenings" all over the world, and mentions several high-profile names, such as: General Cushing, General Davis, Commodore Perry.
