I have a copy of a newspaper page with an item regarding Lt. Downing (no first name or place of residence). It was published in the Adams Sentinel - (Gettysburg, PA) May 10, 1820. In column 2 it is mentioned that a Lt. Downing was serving in Gibraltar on the frigate Guerriere, and fought a duel (which he won) with a Lt. Smith of the British Regiment.
