It would be interesting to know if one or both of my Downing lines were connected to some other lines BUT even if the DNA tests said they were you still wouldn't know how they were connected so I don't see the point.     3. I suppose that if the DNA test showed up as a positive match between yourself and say someone in New York, you could then compare family records to find the connection. Other families are doing this and are finding matches. It is all quite voluntary.     3. Maybe but I don't think it is likely. With my Downing lines anyway they have been researched ad nauseum for many years. I would be very [pleasantly] surprised if an unknown record turned up. You've got to figure at this stage that records for 250 years ago simply no longer exist. That doesn't mean that anyone who wants to have DNA testing shouldn't. I was asked for my opinion and I gave it. Your opinion may vary.
