The children of John Mathews/Matthews were: Margret, Mary, John, Thomas, William and Jane, born between 1797 and 1813. Margret was born in Ireland. The others were born in Ohio. The siblings are named in the will of Thomas who died unmarried. All of the siblings except Margret who had died and MAYBE John for whom nothing more is known, accompanied Samuel and Mary to Logan County, IL. Margret and Mary married Samuel Downing. Margret had 6 children and Mary 2. John apparently never married. He apparently was still alive in 1865 and but not at the probate of Thomas' will in 1875. Thomas never married. William had two sons, Jerimiah and William. Jane married ? Lawrence. In addition to the probate records Samuel Downing had the Matthews family Bible and carefully kept up the record. The Bible still exists. In 1841 the Matthews siblings sold land in Pike County, OH, prior to moving to Illinois. There is a Sarah Matthews listed in that land deal -- she may have been their mother.
