I have known about his grave marker being the wrong one, but wonder why the DAR doesn't have it removed. Also, this is the first time I have heard of the name Bezaleel Downing and I did not not know of the other John Downing, the uncle. Even with this mystery solved, I will still have a hard time trying to join the DAR - I still cannot find death or burial info for my 3rd-great grandfather, Josiah Downing, who was the son of John Downing & Tabitha Johnson, and grandson of John Downing & Hannah Frakes.
