Downing, 57, of Chillicothe, Ohio died 3:06 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born May 14, 1955, in Clarksburg, Ohio, to Austin Gene and Mary B. Daugherty Downing. On July 19, 1994, he married the former Amy M. Trego who survives. In addition to his wife, Amy, of Chillicothe, Ohio and mother, Mary Downing, of Clarksburg, he is survived by children, Eva S. Downing, Jerry L. Downing, Jr., Jessie Downing and Katrina Downing, all of Chillicothe; six grandchildren, including Joey Springer; a brother, Dave Downing, of Chillicothe; and sisters, Judy (Dale) Smith, of Clarksburg and Telisa (Richard) Schoonover, of Chillicothe. He was predeceased by a daughter, Heather Downing; father, Austin Downing; and brothers, Austin and Lafayette Downing. Jerry had been a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Deerfield Township for many years. A graveside service will be held 12 noon Monday, January 7, 2013 in Brown's Chapel Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Brad Harris officiating. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ware Funeral Home.
