It showed the 3 children's names you listed and confirmed data I had already found regarding Peter "William" Decoteau. He was named for his father, Pierre who came from St Valère de Bulstrode, Drummond and Arthabaska district, Quebec and Anglicized his given names to Peter William in America. They were in Stony Point, Rockland Co., New York in 1910, then the family moved up to Saratoga Springs where he started a sand & gravel business. P. William helped his father according to one of the newspaper mentions in the Saratoga Springs newspaper.. (search for Paul Poplin and Peter Decoteau, or William, at http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html) Name: William P Decoteau 1930 Census Jug, Long, Georgia, United States District: 6 Sheet 7B Household ID: 144 Gender: Male Age: 25 Marital Status: Married Race: White Relationship to Head of Household: Head Birth Year (Estimated): 1905 Birthplace: New York Father's Birthplace: Canada Mother's Birthplace: New York Head William P Decoteau M 25 New York Canada New York Wife Nollie B Decoteau F 21 Georgia GA GA Daughter Margaret D Decoteau F 3/12 Georgia NY GA Margaret D Decoteau was 3 months old on Apr 1 1930 so born abt Jan 1930 if census is correct. But other than that date, the 2 adopted siblings of Paul Poplin, eluded me. If they lived, Margaret probably married and had a different surname. Charles Schultz is a common name. Did you find adoption records? Nola Belle must have died between 1933-1939. Do you know where? I wondered if after (or before) she died, P. William Decoleau had moved north closer to his family because Zeno Loton & wife Ora Poplin already lived in Maryland in 1930. Another possibility was that Ora's mother from Georgia, and Nola's were related or acquainted.. Nola Belle's parents, George & Lilla Downing lived in a different counties (and had different spouses and more children) nearly every census,. And the county borders kept changing. Perhaps that explains why the grandchildren didn't go to live with them. Too much info to post here.
