Yes, I noticed that yours was still pending quality assurance review or something along those lines. Linda, Still awaiting my results... heard nothing. Dan Downing
Dear Downing Family Members, my G's Grandfather (mothers side) is the Emanuel Downing referred to in your web site. I have attached below several of the paragraphs appearing there. I am planning to join your society (waiting until end of month to get a full year) and attempted to contact a Mr.. Jim Downing who I was told was very involved with the site's content, etc. I was later informed that he has faced several health challenges and will not be active at the site for a while longer. My question is, does anyone know of or have access to the name or description of the actual source material from which the statement(s) about Emanuel Downing below refers to? I am most interested in taking the line back as far as I can - and would appreciated any information you might have regarding the sources used in the site as to the Emanuel Downing lineage to Saire de Quincy, Earl of Winchester - and beyond. Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from anyone with this information. Regards, Gary L Jordan 602.315.7753 QUOTE """"Emanuel Downing 1585-1676 Father of Sir George Downing Born 01 May 1585 in St. Lawrence, Ipswich, Suffolk, England, his lineage goes back to 1215, when King John, under pressure from the barons and churchmen, issued the Magna Carta. This document was the start of our present day right to trial by jury and no taxation without representation. His lineage has been traced back to Saire de Quincy, Earl of Winchester, who was one of the sureties of the Magna Carta."""" >From: "Lynda Roberts" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [DOWNING] Downing DnA Project >Date: Tue, 1 Jun 2004 18:59:57 -0400 > >This is just an update on the Downing DNA Project currently underway. Hi Dan, My father's name was Dan Ollon Downing and he was born in Jamestown, KY 8/26/1893. Do you have any records and places I can search? Lynda, Thank you for the update. I know many of us are anxious to connect our Downings. Would you please post again about what site a prospective candidate can go read about this project, and the cost involved, etc. I had a major computer crash back in March, and lost everything which I had saved. I have now met another Downing male who works with my husband, right here in Las Vegas and I will try to convince him to participate, even though he is not online and is not researching genealogy at this time. Thanks! Wee
(Alexander)Leander Downing of Chester Co SC is represented in the DNA testing. Has anyone from the John or Andrew Downing line - also from Chester Co SC - been tested? If not - would someone PLEASE volunteer?? I would LOVE to know for sure whether or not Leander Downing is a part of this family. Thanks- Maria Price

This is just an update on the Downing DNA Project currently underway. The DNA of five of our participants has been analyzed. We have learned that none of the five are related, that four of them are of western European origin, and that the fifth is descended from Vikings! With a project such as this, it is important to enlarge the pool for best results. If any Downing males are willing to join the project, please let me know. Does anyone have any info on DOWNINGS in New Zealand? I have a picture of a man and two children. One a girl who appears to be about 10 years old and a bout 6. It was taken by P Schourup photo, whose address on the back appears to be on Colombo Street in Christchurch. On the face of the photo, some one wrote what appears to be Grand dad DOWNING. The DOWNING is clear, but the Grand dad may be some thing else. The photo was possibly taken in the late 1800's.According to my atlas, there is one Christchurch in New Zealand. I have also just discovered another in Dorset County,England. Does anyone know anything about how to get more info on these locations? I tried to get on the new Zealand internet, but I get error messages. Thanks for yoiur help. Clyde Clyde Downing
I am seeking information on the parents of my great-grandfather Hiram Downing born 1814 in N.H. according to census records. He died in Clayton Co., Iowa, in 1866. He went to Iowa about 1840. Family stories state that he was the only child of a second marriage of his father. His mother had been married twice before to a Kelf and a Welsh. I cannot find the name of Hiram's father. It is believed he lived in Manchester or Concord or near one of those places. Is anyone researching this Downing family? I am at a dead end. Rae Downing Sordahl

The site is not informative as to who they are but much of their rules and regs appear to have been taken from USGenWeb so my guess would be some former USGenWeb members. In any event, it is FREE.
