I also have Adobe Photoshop which offers some additional features should I want to use them. I do think that some folks are just not too educated on working with graphics, and that's probably more of a problem than the way you're sending them. I do find that sending a graphic file in .jpg format is absolutely the best way. You don't lose any quality and it uses less byte space than other formats, like .bmp or .gif or whatever. Bottom line: You're doing it just fine as far as I'm concerned! - Ray

    1. Major Jack Downing - Sentinel- Nov. 21, 1853
    2. I have a copy of a newspaper page with an item regarding Jack Downing. It was published in the Adams Sentinel of Gettysburg, PA. on Nov. 21, 1853. The item is a private letter written to General Pierce. Jack Downing has just returned from a "tower" (tour) of Europe as Minister General, and is now at Downingville, Maine. He mentions his Uncle Joshua, Aunt Keziah, cousin Nabby, and cousin Sgt. Joel. A lengthy article, where he discusses the "happenings" all over the world, and mentions several high-profile names, such as: General Cushing, General Davis, Commodore Perry. Feel free to request for a copy.

    1. Re: [DOWNING] Major Jack Downing - March 17, 1834
    2. I also forgot to mention that elsewhere on the same page is another article which mentions a letter threatening the assassination of Major Downing. This item can be found in the 5th column, with the heading: TRANSLATION.

    1. Major Jack Downing - March 17, 1834
    2. I have a copy of a newspaper page with an item regarding Major Jack Downing of the Downingville Militia, 2nd Brigade. It was published in the Adams Sentinel - (Gettysburg, PA) March 17, 1834. This is a very lengthy article -----Major Downing wrote a letter to his friend at the newspaper -- New York Daily Advertiser. He tells his friend a long story of his conversation with General Jackson. He also mentions that his mother was a DANFORTH. Feel free to email me with a request for a copy, which will be sent as a file.

    1. John Downing -KY - Ohio Repository- Oct. 31, 1828
    2. Published in the Ohio Repository & Stark County Gazette. Oct. 31, 1828----- A 4th article regarding John Downing, Henry Clay, etc. -- this one also has a little more insight to the circumstances, and ends with several men saying that John Downing "is an itinerant negro trader, a cockfighter, common slanderer" and a "grog shop bully". LOLOLOLOL!!!!! I can't help but snicker about this. I can almost feel the political tensions of the time, and am reminded what lengths people go to in order to "support" their political party or candidate. I would say that things haven't changed an awful lot since then. :::grin::: I still have several articles to post about Major Downing, and after reading them and these ones about John Downing, I wonder if the Major and John might be related? Major Downing was a very good friend of General Jackson, as well as a newspaperman and respected militarily....I had to wonder if maybe Major Downing enlisted the "help" of John Downing if they are indeed, related. I cannot locate an article which has the published affadavit which John Downing used, and which started this whole mess. However, there are a few references that it was published in the KENTUCKY GAZETTE, so descendants of John Downing might try to locate the copy in a library in Kentucky. It would have been published sometime in October of 1828......before the 22nd. (Possibly even in September) Feel free to request a copy.

    1. John Downing- KY - Delaware Adv. -Oct 30 1828
    2. A 3rd article about the John Downing, Aaron Burr, Henry Clay dispute. This article gives a little more information, plus individual affadavits of 6 men who now claim they were deceived by John Downing into giving a character reference which was then deviously used for political purposes against Henry Clay. This article was published in the Delaware Advertiser & Farmer's Journal --- Wilmington, Delaware. Oct. 30, 1928 Feel free to request a copy.

    1. John Downing-KY Compiler - Oct. 22, 1828
    2. I have a copy of a newspaper page with an item regarding John Downing of Kentucky. It was published in the Republican Compiler of Gettysburg, PA on Oct. 22, 1828. This is another article in a different paper about the volatile political issue regarding John Downing, Aaron Burr, Henry Clay, and General Jackson. It gives a little more insight into the issue. I will be searching for more items regarding this topic...especially trying to find the deposition of John Downing, which was published. Feel free to request for a copy, which will be sent as a file. I have not re-sized the newspaper page to a smaller size, so the downloads will take a bit longer.
