It is true she managed to temporarily convince the DAR that he was but they know better now. Nothing wrong with checking that book but don't consider it an authority. To BAO44@aolcom There was a William Downing immigrated to Virginia from Bristol, England in 1651 to Northumberland County. Ships records in Bristol were destroyed in a riot in 1839. Richard Downing (rdowning@peganet.com) is researching this William. Could be your man.
