    3. Hi All, I'm new to the list and thought it time to ask my great and single question: Does anybody have an Elizabeth DOWNING, b. 1815 in Virginia? Elizabeth was married to William McClelland, b. 1803 in S. Carolina and the had four children, Josephus, James M., Polly A., and Martha Charlotte (my ancestor). This family is in the 1850 census for Washington Co. Indiana. Robb Russon Providence, Utah, USA robborob@mtwest.net

    2. In my resource file it was listed as TO 1850 but you are correct -- it says THROUGH 1850. The only Downing I found there was one 'Cyntha Ann Downing' who married 'James F. Alerander' in Clay County 1-00-1839 [remark said no exact date given]. Looks to me like they have a lot of typos too. I just searched for last name Downing, no other info. That may be the ONLY Downing. However, I would suggest with this and any other such database you give it less details when good details fail. A search for "Cynthia A. Downing" who married "James Alexander" might come up with nothing since there is no Alexander due to typos. I always start with the details I have but fall back on using less just in case when searching. Of course if you are searching for Smith this won't work... 3. Cheryl, If you open the Indiana index to marriage records web site you supplied to us, It comes up ok. but it says marriage records THROUGH 1850. I tried it again today, also for a sister of James Harvey Downing that was married June 1850 and I get no response. I guess they should change the word through to the word to. 3. Hi all, I'm still looking for Russell DOWNING, born about 1796 in New York, and died after 10 April 1878 in Ohio. His first wife died about 1825 probably in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Of that union came at least one child, a daughter, Sally, who was born 1822 in New York. When Russell's first wife died, he married Joanna Hinckley in 1840 in Portage County, Ohio. They had several children. I'm trying to find out who Russell's first wife was and where in New York Russell was from. Colleen Pustola audris@oberpfalznetz.de

    2. Rootsweb is the organization which provides free space for our mailing lists as well as most of the US GenWeb project. If you use it consider supporting it. There are various levels of support from $1 a month/$12 a year up. Sponsors [$24 a year] get extra benefits. Here's the message from Rootsweb: In August, use of RootsWeb grew on average about 15%. While we're more than pleased by our growth, it *is* forcing us to upgrade our servers and increase our bandwidth, which in turn severely strains our limited financial resources. If you'd like to help RootsWeb grow, please consider becoming a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor. Information on how to do that follows the statistics. Here are the detailed statistics on our August operations: o 3,078 independently-authored Websites are hosted by RootsWeb. o 57,294,189 total Web hits: - 15,545,371 were HTML pages. - 8,116,870 were cgi-bin database searches and such. - 33,435,089 were graphics (gifs, jpegs, etc). o 1,161,830 FTP file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives and the ROOTS-L Library. o 4,186 independently-operated mailing lists are hosted by RootsWeb. o We shipped 103,079,174 pieces of e-mail to our mailing lists. o 60,000 alt.g and s.g.* Usenet News articles to hosts on three continents. o We shipped approximately 926,726,400,000 bytes in total (next month we may break 1 Terabyte!). RootsWeb remains supported primarily by our users -- your contributions keep us alive. Folks who would like to become a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor (the cost is very modest) are invited to visit: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html *** You can become a Member easily using your credit card and our new secure server. *** Support from the Internet genealogical community is *crucial* to RootsWeb's operation.
