    1. Re: [DOWNING-L] Charles L. DOWNING
    2. Jim, Thank you. The marriage date helps a little. It is probable then that Virgie was born in 1884. Somebody sent me an article on Charles L. Downing. I think it was a memorial type thing about his death, and life long service to Monroe Township, Davies County. He apparently met both women there. The first could be Richesson, but it is Richardson in the article. No other children listed but Virgie, which seems to be a family name of this line. As you say, there are several. Sue Hodnett

    2. I forgot to include a location for the post I last sent in on John Downing married to Matilda, and it lists their children also. It is to the best of my knowledge from a census of Davies County, MO, either 1850 or 1860. Sue Hodnett

    1. Re: [DOWNING-L] Question
    2. Joe, Thanks, I should have included that information. I believe it is from a census, either 1850 or 1860 of Daivies County, MO. Sue Hodnett

    1. Re: [DOWNING-L] Question
    2. It was sent to me by email, but it came from MO, probably Davies County, since that was the subject place of my enquiry. The census of said county, either 1850 or 1860, the author of the email has copied both. She is Mary Inglis, a researcher. If this is the same John, where does he fit in a Downing line? Sue Hodnett

MO > >Sue Hodnett > Sue, I did a quick check of the 46 CD's I have and I found only one Thursa Richardson. She was born in 1848 in TN. and died 1919 in KY. She was also married to an Eli Mullinix and they had a lot of kids. I found no Thursa C. Culver, but depending on where you got these names they could be the same person and one source used her maiden name and the other used her surname from a previous marriage. I found one Charles Loren Downing, but he was born 40 years to late. I looked on my IGI for Missouri and I found record of a Charles L. Downing married to a Thusa I. Richesson on 15 Mar 1883 in Daviess Co. There were two Virginia Downings, but the father was listed as James on one, and James and Mary on the other. They were both dated in the 1840-50's. In looking at the 1860 Federal Missouri Census, I noticed that in a connecting four county area there were twelve Downings listed. that would be from Grundy Co. to Clinton Co. with DeKalb and Daviess in between of them. Quite a concentration of Downings considering that this was before the Civil War. Well I pretty much struck out! Maybe the marriage date helps? Have any DFHSA members seen a newsletter since Feb. of 98? Jim Downing Sarasota, FL

    2. Thank you, Ruby. Jim downing replied also, with same. I bet this Riley is one of our Downings. I just wish there some dates to go by. One ancestor we have just been calling Powhatan, Jr, has been called Riley Powhatan by one man, and in a cemetery listing from Davies Co., MO, we find him dubbed: John Walker Fullerton P.(Powhatan) Downing. Names! Sue

    3. Sue, I just saw your reply on the Downing Forum. I'm sorry, I can't give you any more information on the Canadian Downings. All I have is a great grandfather born in Harvey, Nova Scotia. The rest were in aroostook county, Maine. These Downings have been very elusive. It is the one line I have found absolutely nothing on. No on-line cuzzies, not even a hint. Right now, the ladies seem to be producing far better than the men. ;-) Thanks, Jackie

There were no dates with either name! Sue Hodnett
