Darlene, There is some about Charles Fountain MALLAHAM in the book 'The CLYMER CLAN of Maryland, Delaware and Points West' by Anita L. Ockert. Your library can get it on inter-library loan from Emporia Public Library in Emporia, KS. Researching Benjamin Downing, who first turns up in Manningtree, Essex, marrying in 1761. He was buried in 1792 but I know nothing of his origins. Lots of information on his descendents, which I would be glad to share. They lived in Manningtree and also in Colchester. Best wishes to everyone Elaine
All this backquoting upon backquoting is very confusing. It would be good to avoid unnecessary backquoting so list members can figure out what your message really is. The Downing Cemetery is in Section 33, Township 19 North, Chester Township, Logan County, IL. How shall I put this -- there is a person buried there who died in 1840. However, I am not sure that that person was originally buried on that spot. There is another who died in 1844 and the same may be true. A clue here is Samuel did not buy the land until 1844-45 -- don't remember which on that parcel. In 1843 he was selling up his land in Ohio. In 1847 Samuel's second wife [and my ancestor] died. After that burials picked up so it would seem like he set aside the cemetery plot when his wife died. There is a Downing Cemetery in Mt. Pulaski, Logan County, IL, on land donated by Samuel Downing. It is just across the field from the house I grew up in and my cousin still farms Samuel's land around the cemetery. I will be more than happy to share it IF I can get a copy. The folks in the Historical Society in Morris county , KS are helping me. There is a lot of history in Morris county as it was on the Santa Fe Trail and the Last Chance Store is still there. Custer Oak, Post Office Oak and many more historical sites. I will post notice about the Downing Station when or IF I get it. John and Mary (Boiler) Downing are my 4th great grandparents. They were here before Kansas became a State. Descendant of John and Mary qualify for a TERRITORIAL CERTIFICATE for $7.50 for Kansas residents or $7 out of State residents. Thanks Cherry for replying. Yes I have the information you found. I believe that William, son of William Downing b. 1722 that m. Margaret Miller could be father of my William b. 1800-04 somewhere in KY and was in Henry Co., Ind. 1835. ---------- > From: Sherry Kaseberg <sherryk@TRANSPORT.COM> > To: DOWNING-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [DOWNING-L] Downing, Moore > Date: Friday, December 04, 1998 9:50 AM > > >Can anyone out there tell me about the following information I found on the > >internet: > >(William Downing married Margaret Moore in 1795, possibly Lancaster Co., > >PA. There is a Downing School in Runnymeade, NJ. This was named after the widow of Dana Downing, son of William Seward Downing. Dana died at the age of 32 leaving a young widow and an 18m old daughter. Not being trained in a profession, Grace Downing began teaching in the one room schools. Thirty years later she was principal of the elmentary school in Runnymeade. When it was time for her to retire, the school district in honor of her dedication to the children of the community, renamed the school the Grace Downing Elementary School. Linda
