    2. Thought I would let you all know that Ryan is doing ok so far. This family has so much Faith and Strength as you can tell by the Mom Carolyn ____________________________________ To: Csg228 Sent: 9/23/2009 12:40:43 P.M. Central Daylight Time Subj: Fwd: Ryan News Ryan Cunningham News Tues., Sept. 22, 10:30pm Posted 12 hours ago Yah, totally different than the first time following brain surgery… At 7:30pm, he asked me to get a pen and paper and dictated an order for me to pick up at the nearest Subway: 1 -6 inch sandwich whole grain wheat Ham white american 1 tomato lettuce mayo mustard and Sprite to drink After I got back with it, he looked to take a bite and started crying – "it isn‘t white bread, that‘s not what I ordered". I showed him the list and let him calm down a few minutes. He took a bite and said, he wished it was white bread. He said he didn‘t want it and drank some sprite. After a few more minutes I offered again, the stomach won – he ate 4 big bites and then I suggested he let his stomach rest for a few minutes. We turned on a movie and after a half an hour I asked if he wanted more sandwich. He shook his head emphatically. He proceeded to down the whole 6 inch, save a bite or two (propping himself up on an elbow and feeding himself in bed). Then he drank some more sprite, and a few apples, sat up and burped a few good ones and said "I feel better". He finished the movie and said he was really tired, "it‘s time to sleep and you need to go to sleep too so you will get your rest". Wow! What a handful our strong little boy is! I hope for a quite evening, but he takes after his high maintenance mommy, so we will see. Good night all and pray for very quick healing and no things out of left field AT ALL! (Can we be that demanding?) Love to all, Michelle Wed. Sept 23, 10:30am Posted 8 minutes ago Well, our room and its location in PICU caused us both to not sleep so well. Very noisy! They say that we should be able to get out of here, but so far there are no other rooms available in the regular floor!*&%^&# Lots of people needing hospital care today, which in this case is affecting us. Go figure… Ryan struggled to fall into a good sleep last night obviously, as did I. He did wake up a few times crying and in some pain. We gave him some meds and he did better. This morning around 7:15a he woke up in pain again and saying weird stuff. Then he stopped and fell back asleep. He has been sleeping pretty well since. The nurse did give him some pain stuff through his IV around 8am, so apparently that is helping. There are just so many interruptions in the hospital environment! Even when one is able to sleep, they wake you back up constantly. Dorothy said it best – "There‘s no place like home!" Even Ryan is aware of his desire for this – this time around. He kept asking, I want to go home. We‘ll see how today goes – day after surgery – you just must feel really bad after all anesthesia effects wear off. Please pray that pain will be at a minimum and neurological effects are few and far between if at all. He is favoring the sleeping on his right side and said he feels like his brain moves around when he turns over, so he is having some funky feelings that need to stabilize. Hanging in there, but really tired! Praise God for how far we have come so far! Michelle This message is from Woods Chapel Church.
