Today my volunteer Wendy, called and told me that one of my ladies on Meals On Wheels route didn't answer either door or phone..So I kept calling. Her car was in the driveway Wendy said. I looked at the lady's folder and she had her husband listed as contact person. He's been dead about 3 years. So after I punched my card to go home I went to her house instead. Knocked and called her phone. Both storm doors were locked so I knew she was inside. My heart sunk to my feet. I just knew something was wrong. I went next door and asked the neighbor if they had seen her. They hadn't but was real concerned. Betty always answered the phone and door. She was always ready for her meal. She is 85 years old. We called the police. One came and found out he couldn't get in..So he called for the fire department and rescue squad. They found a window unlocked but it fell and broke. One managed to climb in the window and unlocked the door. She was inside. They found her somehow tangled under a table. They said they didn't know how in the world she got inside it. Maybe trying to crawl out. They took her to the hospital. She had two bruised eyes. Don't know how long she had been there or if anything was broken...Maybe tomorrow I'll find out....Sleep well tonight Betty..
