Marilyn and Shirley, Here is mom's kraut in a jar. chop cabbage to desired size add to jar( I believe this is for pint jar.) add 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp vinager 1/2 tsp, sugar fill jar with cabbage add salt, vinager and sugar. DO NOT not pack cabbage. fill jar up to a 1/2 inch from top of jar with boiling water. place lids on jar. DO NOT TIGHTEN LIDS!!!!!!!!!!! the cabbage must have space to work. by working this means the water will bubble out of the jars. So place jars in a pan or somewhere where it won't make a mess. Once the kraut stops working lids may be thighten down. Make a very few jars at a time to see if you like it. Dot Jo
