The only thing I hate worse than having cold weather is having to be out in the COLD trying to save the life of a new calf. Somehow, our cows didn't get the memo that stated no births authorized when the temp is below 50 degrees. Brand new baby that hadn't been up and was too weak to nurse - antibiotic shot, drench bottle of colostrum and warm blankets & towels were the order of the day (or night as in this case). I really hate the idea of having to get out to check on it early tomorrow morning (and by early I mean before 5 am). They're saying a high of 15 tomorrow and low of 4 - but winds 20 to 30 MPH from the NW tonight and winds 10 to 15 mph tomorrow. Brr!!!! Sherri, You need to send those cows back to breeding & birthing school so they can learn not to calf in the middle of winter.
