    3. Mildred, the area I live in had only 2 department stores. Wal-mart and Magic Mart. Magic Mart was a very nice little store, kept their prices low, kept up layaways when walmart stopped doing them. Business was good for them and I would rather shop there than at walmart. BUT Walmart soon run them out of business. Now walmart has a monoply on the town if you need something that is the only place to get it!!!! put a lot of local people out of jobs. Nothing left here but the big Celco plant and it is down sizing every day. when it closes and it will we will be a ghost town, no jobs to be had. 3. Shirley B. Its that way everywhere now, I can't see how it happened all over the country? Bakersfield,Ca is a large city, built houses and shopping centers on every piece of land they could find. Now people are having to leave their homes, and leaving everything in them, they can't put in a car, lots of homeless people also. and people eating at the rescue missions kitchens. 3. Shirley B, That is the way it is around here. No jobs, and the ones with jobs worried how long they will have one. I honestly think we are headed back to the old farm life and the way you and I were brought up. Our water heater went out last week, I told Larry,(a true city boy) just forget about it we don't need that much hot water. LOL he said what are you going to do about baths? I said the river is right down below us the indians take river baths we can too. He seriously thought I had lost my mind. I laughted and told him it hasn't been that long since we heated water on the back of the stove for all our hot water needs. HE KNEW I WAS CRAZY THEN. ROFLMAO. wouldn't want to do that again but could if i had to. dot jo ----- Original Message ----- From: <SMtblubrd@aol.com> To: <down-home-chatter@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 25, 2009 7:34 PM Subject: Re: [DOWN-HOME-CHATTER] where has everyone gone??? > > In a message dated 9/25/2009 1:25:28 A.M. 1. [DOWN-HOME-CHATTER] Bizzy weekend
    2. Nancy M. Boyd
    3. Besides being super busy at work my weekend is blown to bits. Saturday I took off because of a required driving course for the Iowa EMS Dept. I get to sit for 9 hours for a didatic course on driving fire trucks and ambulances complete with a written test. Oh Joy. Then on Sunday we host a pancake breakfast at the fire station for a wish bicycle ride to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. Normally we have abt. 120 people pre register, but this time over 200 are pre registered. Which means we upped the amount of pancake mix we had to purchase to about 70 lbs. I increased the sausage gravy for biscuits and gravy to six gallons this year. A whole bunch of biscuits, and 80 pounds of sausage patties, round out the food items. It makes a tidy little bit of money for the fire department which we desperately need. Believe me I am going to crash Sunday afternoon. Nancy

    3. Mildred, I have long ago decided I don't want to move. I shop a lot at a little store called "Save A Lot" they don't carry name brand stuff. but you could get canned corn, peas, etc. for $8.00 a 24 can case. But have noticed the last times they have gone up at least .50 or more on their items. So don't shop there any more except maybe specials. With my canning don't need their can stuff anymore. 3. I was born right here in Cordele, Ga. 97 miles from the Fl. Line. My dad is a minister and we moved to Ar. In the Ms. River delta area, where I grew up, then up near the Mo. Line. We've also lived in S. E. Mo., then Kansas City. My hubby is a union electrician and we've lived in Tn., St. Louis, and KC, even Il. A short time. We moved back here about 6 yrs. Ago. My parents and younger brother and son had already moved back. Then my younger sister came & about a yr. Ago, my daughter and the grandsons. My heart is still in Ar. And Mo. I love the changing of the seasons. It's still hot here! I hate the gators in the river & lake too. I love being near most of my family, though. ---------- This message is from a Virgin Mobile customer. Enjoy. ------Original Message------ From: Dorothy Bowles <dotjo1@suddenlink.net> To: <down-home-chatter@rootsweb.com> Date: Fri, 25 Sep 2009 02:41:27 PM -0400 Subject: Re: [DOWN-HOME-CHATTER] where has everyone gone??? Mildred, I have long ago decided I don't want to move. I shop a lot at a little store called "Save A Lot" they don't carry name brand stuff. but you could get canned corn, peas, etc. for $8.00 a 24 can case. But have noticed the last times they have gone up at least .50 or more on their items. So don't shop there any more except maybe specials. With my canning don't need their can stuff anymore. I sure feel sorry for those poor souls that depend on the stores for every bite they eat. 3. Milly, That is the way I remember it being made. Had forgotten all I knew about it. Couldn't for the life of me remember how it was done. BUT YOU JOGGED MY MEMORY!!!!!!! LOL yes, I remember now the mules and the trough. I couldn't remember what happened after the horses brought the cane in from the patch. The one and only time I ever saw it made. I remember it was started late in the evening and didn't finish up until late in the night. We kids got sleepy and sometime during the late night was sent home to go to bed. I was spending the night with my girl friend whose family was making the molassas. The next morning I awoke fully clothed, laying cross way the bed with six or seven other kids boys and girls laying cross ways the bed with me. LOL heaven help us if that were to go on today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! happened every day in my life time and no one gave it a thought.
