I am trying to sort out who these Dowells in my family belong to. Aaron Chambers married Mary Dowell in NC in 1822 Aaron and Mary's son, James Chambers married Mary Ann Dowell born about 1841 in IN In 1850 Elijah Mitchell was married to a Jane Dowell (age 29) and in the census had Nancy (mid 30's) and Sarah Dowell (age 43) living with him. 10 years later Thomas Mitchell, 15, and Nancy Dowell, apparently his step-mother's sister, were living in the home of Jeremiah Chambers, Aaron and Mary Dowell Chambers' son, in Polk Co. MO. 10 years after that, Nancy Dowell was living in the home of Hugh Chambers, another son of Aaron and Mary Dowell Chambers.Nancy had gone blind, and Thomas Mitchell possibly orphaned, sometime after 1850. What happened to Jane Dowell Mitchell and Sarah Dowell?

Hi Clark, I can't help you out on the Missouri end of things although I was born in that state. Mary "Polly" (Dowell) Chambers' line I can tract back to Maryland in the 1690s.
