Surnames: Dowell, Redman Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AST.2ACEB/461.1.1 Message Board Post: I have traced ancestors to Cora Dowell, daughter of William c Dowell, where they are testifying to the Dawes Commission in 1900-1904. William C Dowell claims to be a son of James Dowell and Vicey Redman, and that Vicey Redman's father is a full blood Choctaw by the name of Redman. They weren't able to prove to the commission that they were related to Vicey. A Vicey was reported as a child over 10 of Betty Beams (head of household) but later thru testimony Betty seams to be Vicey's aunt. They both received land in Alabama thru the treaty of Dancing Rabbitt Creek (1830). Betty Beams didn't get her land until 1846.
