I had no clue as to whether "Captain" was a given name or a rank--perhaps from the militia or even the War of 1812. Descendants of this couple still live in Dowell, Calvert County, MD; and also in the Baltimore area. One of them has taken a DNA test that shows they are related in some way to my Dowells who lived in the other end of Calvert County, in Prince Frederick and in Southern Anne Arundel County.
